Former minister of economic development and current Maavashu MP Mohamed Saeed has said that the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) leader Abdulla Yameen wished to participate in PPM and People’s National Congress (PNC) coalition’s candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s campaign.

While former president Yameen continues to serve his 11-year jail term following his conviction on money laundering and graft charges related to the Vaavu atoll Aarah lease case, there were rumors suggesting that he had conveyed a message against Dr. Muizzu through MP Saeed during his recent court visit. However, Saeed addressed these rumors during a campaign rally in Laamu atoll Fonadhoo.

Saeed said the rumors were spread by the coalition’s political opponents to create rifts in the leadership and members. The MP added PPM/PNC coalition exhibited full democratic principles.

“President Yameen’s wish, and his plea is to bring an end to our complete dependency on India. He requested the people to vote for candidate number 4, Dr. Muizzu,” Saeed said.

In addition, Saeed praised PNC leader and former Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla who currently leads the opposition coalition’s efforts. According to Saeed, Abdul Raheem is the most loyal politician to Yameen in the Maldives.

Saeed further said Dr. Muizzu would be following in the footsteps of Yameen and would lead his governance under the direct supervision and advise of the former president.
