The newly developed medical unit was unveiled at the 'Fiyavathi' orphanage in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale on Thursday.
The medical unit was inaugurated in a special ceremony by Minister of Gender and Family Aminath Zenysha.
After the opening, Minister Zenysha declared that the government gives special priority to ensuring the basic needs of children under state care. She stated that the new medical unit would be a great boost for 'Fiyavathi'.
The medical unit provides treatments for common diseases and features facilities for inpatients, health screening, intravenous therapy and treatment of wounds.
Currently, there are 91 children under the age of 12 at 'Fiyavathi'. Prior to the medical unit, the children received health care at a special medical room established in the orphanage.
