Ministry of Education has annulled the decision to change the A-Level syllabus to Cambridge.
The ministry on August 24, 2022 released a statement notifying that the new A-Level academic year will begin under the Cambridge International syllabus, and the following year's October/November is set for the Cambridge International A-Level's examination.
However, speaking about the ministry's decision to annul the syllabus, the Deputy Minister of the Education Ministry managing the Department of Public Examination (DPE) Mohamed Ihusan said it was not the opportune moment to shift the syllabus from Edexcel to Cambridge.
The new academic year for A'Level students, which commenced in September adhered the Edexcel syllabus following the ministry's decision.
Ihusan further said the decision had been notified to all the relevant schools providing Advanced Level education. However, some of these schools report they did not receive the previous year's announcement from the ministry.
The DPE head also said that the ministry's earlier decision to change the syllabus was aimed to provide an easier academic experience for A'Level students.
He noted that students faced difficulties in adapting to the Edexcel syllabus in their Advanced Levels after becoming accustomed to the Cambridge syllabus in their O'Levels.
This also has resulted in a higher number of students not pursuing A'Levels after concluding their O'Level education, Ihusan added.
