Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) launched a campaign on Monday that centralizes on Global Money Week, an annual global week-long celebration initiated by Child & Youth Finance International (CYFI) in 2012.

The campaign aims to provide children and youth with knowledge concerning money, saving, creating livelihoods, financial inclusion, and entrepreneurship in order to help them adopt a responsible attitude towards money.

The campaign will be held from March 25 to March 30.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Iskandhar School to officiate the programme, MMA Governor Ahmed Naseer stated that children should learn to manage money and maintain records of what they do with their pocket money starting at a young age. He elaborated by adding that tracking the amount of money the child receives and how much he or she spends, will serve to greatly benefit them in the future.

Naseer mentioned the youth should take into account the importance of saving and take advantage of such programmes.

Minister of Higher Education Dr Ibrahim Hassan was also in attendance, at the ceremony.

Activities relating to Global Money Week will be taking place not only in the capital Male’, but also other islands in other atolls.

This year, endeavors related to Global Money Week will be carried out by MMA, Ministry of Education, and several other financial institutions. There will be an inter-school art competition, a video competition, and a business forum for young entrepreneurs.

Global Money Week is planned to be concluded with an evening dedicated to children.
