Maldives Police Service issued a summons for the Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Ahmed Naseer to present himself on Wednesday night.
According to a Police spokesperson, the MMA Governor was summoned regarding a case currently under investigation. A specific time for the summons was not provided.
The police recently confirmed that Governor Naseer was being investigated for obstruction of justice.
The Parliament’s Financial Committee summoned Governor Naseer on March 5 for questioning regarding the report publicized by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the embezzlement case of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
The Committee also questioned Naseer concerning the sudden impeachment of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)’s former head Abdulla Ashraf without proper cause.
FIU, an independent agency of MMA established under the Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Act. is tasked with analysing information concerning money laundering activities and suspicious activity from commercial banks,
