The Norwegian Ambassador to Maldives, Thorbjørn Gaustadsæther, held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Foreign Secretary, Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, on Wednesday.

During the meeting, both the Ambassador and Foreign Secretary held discussions on strengthening the existing bilateral relations between Maldives and Norway.

Ambassador Gaustadsæther revealed the interest of the Norwegian government to explore further avenues to cooperate and invest in Maldives, such as in the areas of ocean affairs, marine litters, waste management and clean energy.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of small nations working together on issues such as environment protection, sustainable development and climate change adaptation.

Foreign Secretary Ghafoor expressed gratitude for Norway’s active engagement and support to the Maldives during the past. He also conveyed the hope to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.

Foreign Secretary Ghafoor was accompanied at the meeting by Shiuneen Rasheed and Fathimath Razana, the Director and Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, respectively.

Ambassador Gaustadsæther was accompanied by Monica Svenskerud, the Deputy Head of Mission and Political Adviser at the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
