Maldives requests European Union (EU) to allow Maldivians to receive on-arrival VISA to all EU countries, and to cut the duties on the fish products exported from Maldives into the EU.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a meeting held this week with senior EU officials, the Maldives requested that the country be granted Schengen visas by the EU and that duties on fish products be cut.

Discussions were also had in the meeting to develop the relations between various Maldivian authorities and the EU as well.

Maldivians are currently not eligible for an on-arrival Schengen VISA into the EU, which allows for travel into all EU countries. Due to the high duties placed on exported fish products, Maldives have repeatedly asked EU to cut this duty.

While Maldives has requested the EU to grant on-arrival visas for Maldivians, Maldivians already receive on-arrival visas by many countries. Maldives continues to maintain its status as the most powerful passport in South Asia every year.
