In his address today commemorating Children's Day, celebrated nationally on May 10, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the importance of nurturing children to embrace Islamic principles, nationalism, and leadership, stressing that this is a responsibility that everyone must shoulder.

President Dr Muizzu also reaffirmed the government's dedication to collaborate with all stakeholders including parents, guardians and communities to ensure the welfare of all children.

On that note, he highlighted the administration's initiatives to enhance the wellbeing of children such as construction of libraries across the nation and providing children with access to knowledge and enrichment.

The President also reminisced on the teachings of the late Mohamed Jameel Didi's story 'Hathhahaaves Dhareenneve' [All are Children], and called on the public to embody the lessons of treating all children with compassion, care, and support regardless of their birth status, as taught in the story.

President Muizzu also offered a prayer for the wellbeing of all children, especially those who have gone through traumatic experiences such as losing homes, parents and guardians. He also prayed for Allah's promised blessings in Paradise for the children martyred in Palestine and Allah's mercy upon all children facing martyrdom.

As a closing remark, the president called on the public to strive for a better future for all children and the nation as a whole.

The Maldives first began celebrating children's day on May 10, 1979. Since then, the occasion is marked every year with pomp and fanfare.
