Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muthhalib has announced that the list of recipients for the 4,000 flats under the Housing Scheme in Hulhumale' will be released today.

At a press conference held at the President’s Office, the minister said that, from the list of recipients issued during the final days of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, those eligible for three-bedroom flats are those who scored above 76 points. A draw will be held among those who scored 75 points, and those who scored 73 points will be eligible for a two-bedroom flat.

The previous list included 3,721 individuals qualifying for three-bedroom flats and 1,218 for two-bedroom flats. However, the government

constructed 2,750 three-bedroom flats and 1,250 two-bedroom flats.

“The list that went through verification included 4,939 individuals,” said Muthhalib.

Following all verifications, 1,423 individuals were deemed eligible for three-bedroom flats, and 397 people were eligible for two-bedroom flats.

“Those who do not meet the requirements, or those who do not receive flats due to insufficient points, will be excluded from the process,” he added.

Minister Muthhalib said that the forms of individuals not included in the previous government’s list had not been considered. He stressed that the list would not contain any undocumented or ineligible applicants.

“The verification was done through the portal, and no information submitted was given the opportunity to alter documents,” he stated.

Muthhalib also addressed concerns about the documents submitted for flat applications. He noted that some applicants had provided false documentation, such as council-issued proof of residence in Male' for 15 years when they had not lived in the city for that long.

“Most applicants for the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme are those who registered after migrating to Male’ from other islands. However, many struggle to prove they’ve lived in Male’ since 2007, which is a fundamental requirement,” he said.

He added that residence in Male' had to be substantiated by documents from the Housing Ministry and evidence from the local council. The minister revealed that 8 percent of applicants were placed on the flat list without proper documentation.

Muthhalib said the government agencies had thoroughly reviewed the matter, including looking into issues through the pension office.

Despite the challenges, the minister emphasized that efforts were made to include as many eligible individuals as possible on the list.
