President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said today that he would work towards fulfilling the presidential pledges made to the people of Raa Atoll's Angolhitheemu and Rasgetheemu within this year.

The president's remarks were made during his visit to the two islands, where he explained that the initiatives were delayed due to the economic difficulties and budget constraints faced by the country.

However, this year will be the year of implementation of multiple projects in Angolhitheemu and Rasgetheemu, he said.

As such, President Muizzu said he would restart and complete the water and sewerage project initiated in the islands by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Road development projects will follow after that, he also added.

The president further said that he would also develop a swimming beach area, a harbour and a handball court there as well.

Dr. Muizzu also reflected on the islands' health and education sectors, describing them as previously neglected. However, this year's budget will prioritise the reinforcement of both these areas, he assured.

The President met with the people of Rasgetheemu this afternoon and said that although it is a small island by population, development projects will be carried out without discrimination.

“It is the government's plan and aim to start everything I have mentioned and complete most of those within this year,” he said.

He also recalled pledges relating to sports, waste management, water and sanitation and road development that he promised the island. He also said that he would work to solve the electricity problem in the local islands and develop local health centres as well.

After discussions with the council, the President said he would give priority to starting and completing the projects this year, adding that it is why the relevant ministers accompanied him on the visit.

"I assure you that these issues will be commenced and completed with great priority in the coming days of this year. The ministers responsible for these matters have been brought with me," he said.

The President also inaugurated the new council building in Rasgetheemu, and an agreement was also signed between the council and BML to establish BML ATMs in both the islands..
