Vice President Faisal Naseem met with Male’ City Council on Wednesday to discuss policy and development issues in the capital.
At the meeting held at the President's Office with Mayor Shifa Mohamed and Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef in attendance, the council highlighted issues for which they required government assistance, including road safety, parking issues and increasing the overall cleanliness of the capital city.
The council also shared some of the proposed development projects for Male' with Vice President Naseem, along with the obstacles that need to be overcome to meet development goals.
The councillors further acknowledged and expressed appreciation that several of the powers stripped from the council during the previous administration have now been restored, stating that it would facilitate their work going forward.
The President's Office stated that the vice president and councillors further discussed ways to address staffing shortages, and to overcome bureaucratic and financial hurdles to expedite important development projects.
