Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed has announced that the final stages of work are underway to introduce a regulation for allocating funds to the media.
The approved state budget for next year includes 0.1 percent of state revenue designated for the media, amounting to MVR 27.9 million.
In response to a question from Mihaaru News, Minister Waheed said that the Youth Ministry has initiated efforts to develop the regulation for media funding from the budget.
The regulation is currently under discussion with the finance ministry and relevant agencies, he said.
It is President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's presidential pledge to allocate a portion of the state budget to support and empower the media financially.
