Parliament's Committee on Economic Affairs has on Tuesday granted approval to appoint former Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation Hassan Zareer to the post of Commissioner General of Taxation.
The Tax Commissioner post became vacant after the previous commissioner, Fathuhulla Jameel, resigned from the post to contest in the recent parliamentary election.
Of those who applied for the position, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu nominated former Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed and former Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation Hassan Zareer.
After interviewing both nominees, the Parliament's Committee on Economic Affairs voted on the two names today.
Yazeed received 4 votes in favour, while Zareer received approval with 10 votes.
While Zareer has received parliamentary approval, he has also been appointed as the Chairperson of the Director's Board of Bank of Maldives.
