Police have stated that between January and August this year, 150kg of drugs have been seized in various operations, with a street value of MVR 282 million.
Police have stated that between January and August this year, 150kg of drugs have been seized in various operations, with a street value of MVR 282 million.
As per the statistics shared by Police, 8554 places have been inspected this year under 113 drugs operations. During these, 712 persons were arrested.
Police said that 158.8kg drugs were seized in these operations, as well as 5252 bottles of alcohol. The street value of all this reaches MVR 282.3 million.
Of these, 230 cases have been forwarded to the Prosecutor General's Office.
Statistics of the Gang Crime Enforcement unit show that 12,253 people were questioned in drugs related cases.
- 2583 persons over the age of 18 were stopped and questioned
- Minors were questioned 2014 times (some minors were questioned more than once, with separate incidences totaling 331)
- 173 vehicles were inspected
- Various locations were searched 87,775 times
- Tables and chairs were removed from 2 locations
- 67 persons were arrested
- Graffiti was removed 37 times
Police said that 22 out of the 67 persons arrested are in police custody. 15 are in remand jail, and 30 released.
Police said that 22 cases related to gang crimes have been submitted, with 8 cases now forwarded to the Prosecutor General's Office.
