Cities and islands have been lit up with dazzling fairy lights and decorative arches on the occasion of Fitr Eid, and the fountain in the Republic Square has also been reopened to public last night.

This year, Fitr Eid falls on Wednesday, April 10.

A special ceremony was held last night at the Republic Square to inaugurate 'Eid Ali' [Eid Light], an initiative under which cities and islands across the Maldives are being adorned with decorative lights and other decorations on the occasion of Eid. With this inauguration, Male', other cities, and administrative capitals of all atolls have commenced lighting up the decorations from last night onwards.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, First Lady Sajida Mohamed and their children participated in this ceremony. Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef also attended the ceremony accompanied by his family.

The fountain at the Republic Square, which had been in disrepair for an extended period of time, was fixed under the directive of President Dr Muizzu and reopened during last night's ceremony.

Repair work on the fountain was conducted by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.

As well as the decorations, several festive eid activities have also been planned to be held during Eid in the capital. This includes traditional games, fireworks and a special stage show.
