Criminal Court has extended the remand in custody by 15 days of two local men in Malé City who robbed foreigners and threatened to cut off their fingers.
The two were arrested for robbing foreigners at Rasfannu at knife-point under threat of cutting their fingers off if they did not hand over money.
The two arrested in the case are Ahmed Sivath, 37, of Athireege, Hithadhoo, Addu and Mohamed Salim, 37, Delightface of the same island.
When first presented at court, they had been placed in remand in custody for 15 days. At the end of this period, they were taken to court again, which ruled to extend their detention by 15 days.
The court order said that both the arrestees have a prior record of detention and arrests, and releasing them to society poses a risk of reoffending.
The money stolen by the two has since been retrieved.
