Islamic Ministry has started Zakat al-mal distribution for the year at a rate of MVR 4,000 per person.
The government of Maldives has begun distributing Zakat al-Mal to those registered on the local poverty list, today.
Islamic Ministry said this year shows the highest per capita distribution of Zakat al-mal for the poor and needy.
A total of 3,183 people from Malé and within the atolls will receive the zakat this year.
- 2023: MVR 3,500
- 2022: MVR 3,000
- 2021: MVR 2,700
The Islamic Ministry said that this year's Zakat money is being deposited into the accounts of eligible beneficiaries after reviewing the poverty list from 2021 to date.
In addition to Zakat al-mal, the Zakat Fund has also disbursed MVR 16.78 million for medical treatment so far this year, the ministry said.
Zakat al-mal is a religious obligation upon every Muslim man and woman having certain amount of wealth kept for a (lunar) year.
