The National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM) has raised concerns about old fishing vessels drifting in the Hulhumalé lagoon. In a tweet, the Boating Association said that the vessels were in motion with no one aboard them.
NBAM added that the issue has already been brought to the attention of Urbanco, Ministry of Tourism, and the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
According to the association, the old vessels had drifted from their berthed location and were scraping against other docked vessels in the lagoon, causing damage.
Photos show that these vessels are significantly old and rusty. Currently, four such vessels are inside Hulhumalé lagoon, which is one of the main berthing venues for safari vessels and liveaboards in the Maldives.
