The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has recently revised its vehicle registration regulation by revoking the requirement for prior authorization to import automobiles and other four-wheeler vehicles. This policy change aims to benefit the public and simplify the import process.

Previously, importers had to obtain permission from the ministry by submitting a vehicle de-registration form or an original document from the vehicle's manufacturer, which proved challenging due to difficulties in obtaining some required information. Moreover, importers were also required to submit a garage permit to request the document.

Under the new amendment, the ministry has combined two separate processes required for importing vehicles into one. Importers can now submit a filled LR1 form for vehicle registration without an L10 application.

To import brand-new vehicles, the ministry still requires importers to provide the manufacturer's certificate or any other original document issued by the manufacturer. The importer should also provide relevant information, such as invoices, de-registration certificates, export certificates, manufacturer's name, vehicle's model, engine, and chassis numbers, and the year of the model.

Furthermore, the importer must provide a roadworthiness report and a garage document issued by a relevant authority to the ministry for registration. Overall, this revision to the vehicle registration regulation will help facilitate the import of vehicles and make the process smoother for the public.
