Sonee Fishing is preparing to host its “Kandu Foari” fishing race on February 18.

Sonee Fishing introduced its Kandu Foari platform in December 2022 to organise and host regular fishing competitions in the Maldives.

According to Sonee Fishing, both virtual and physical races are planned. The first competition will include sport fishing and hand-lining categories. The winning team from the sport fishing category will receive prize money of MVR 15,000 and a gift voucher worth MVR 10,000. The winning team from the hand-line category will receive prize money of MVR 10,000 with a gift voucher worth MVR 5,000.

Another highlight of the fishing race is that it is applicable anywhere in the country. Participants can log into the app and upload their catches to earn points.

Sonee Fishing launched its Kandu Foari fishing race in association with Unix Sports.

Sonee Fishing said it hoped to generate interest among the local fishing communities and endorse fishing activities in the country with its app and the tournament.

“Fishing is part of the Maldivian identity, so we aim to rejuvenate the activity and create interest among newcomers. A competition like this will create a competitive yet fun environment, and it will help in creating a younger generation of fishers. We are giving a golden opportunity for sports fishing and hand-line enthusiasts,” an official from Sonee Fishing said. Participants in the fishing race can download the app, upload their profiles, and earn points. They are not required to weigh their catch physically and can earn points simply by uploading images of their catches.

The competition is scheduled to take place every month, while future tournaments will have online participation opportunities as well. Registration opportunities for interested participants will remain open until February 15. To register, individuals can contact Sonee via telephone or submit their registration forms on the official Kandu Foari website.
