Overall prices on various fish available in the Male' Fish Market, have slid down.
On Monday, the price on skipjack tuna; the most commonly and readily sold fish commodity in the Maldivian market, are currently sold between MVR40 to MVR45 per kilogram.
Price on skipjacks were scaled between MVR60 and above per kilogram for before the reviewed date.
On the other hand, yellowfin tuna, which are relatively more expensive compared to skipjacks, are currently sold at almost the same price range as its more abundant contemporary.
Reports indicate that yellowfins are currently sold around the price of MVR45 per kilogram, whereas prior to the review date, the prices were reported between MVR65 to MVR80 or more per kilogram.
Furthermore, price reductions were not observed exclusively in ocean bound fish but also in reef and lagoon fish as well.
As such prices of sailfish, sold in chunks or fillets, have gone down to MVR20 per chunk or fillet while snappers are currently sold at MVR100 per piece and groupers at MVR250 per piece.
