COVID-19: Death toll reaches 198 in Maldives

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced on Monday that the total number of COVID-19 fatalities have reached 198.

Late on Saturday evening, a 63 year old Maldivian man admitted at Hulhumale' Medical Facility (HMF) had passed away.

Two more people admitted in HMF had passed away over Sunday and Monday as well. On Sunday, an 83 year old man had passed away early morning while a 27 year old man had passed away on Monday evening. They were both Maldivians.

HPA making a correction on the COVID fatality they announced on Monday

Earlier on Monday, HPA had announced the death of a 55 year old man as a COVID fatality as well. However, they said upon further examination, the immediate cause of death of the patient was not COVID, and declared it to be not a COVID-19 death.

So far 37 people has passed away due to COVID in Maldives in June. In May, 88 people passed away, making it the month with most recorded COVID fatalities so far.

There has been over 70,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Maldives. Currently there are 8,703 active cases.
