President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed has moved out of Muliaage, the official presidential residence.

Mihaaru news reported the couple moved to the familial home of First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Maafannu Sunny in Male’. The couple moved to Muliaage on November 30, 2018, shortly after President Solih was sworn into office on November 17.

Even though the first couple have moved out, it in unclear whether the President Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his wife Saajidha Mohamed will change their residence to Muliaage.

During former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration, Muliaage was used for campaign meetings for Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in addition to holding the party’s parliamentary group’s meetings. The residence was also used as the center for the political activities headed by then First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.

Muliaage, which was built 104 years ago during Sultan Mohamed Shamshudheen’s reign, was temporarily used by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom as well, in 1994 when Theemuge was being developed to what it is now. Former President Mohamed Nasheed also lived in Muliaage from the time he was sworn into office in 2008 until he resigned in 2012.
