Presidential couple hosts Independence Day reception

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed hosted a special reception held to commemorate the Maldives' Independence Day.

The reception, held at the Islamic Center courtyard on Tuesday evening, July 25 was attended by several state and foreign dignitaries, including vice president Faisal Naseem and his spouse Aishath Shamsadha, as well as former presidents, high-ranking government officials, parliament members, former ministers, members of various commissions, senior judiciary members, and political appointees.

The event was also attended by a diverse group of individuals, including, prominent sports personalities, students and individuals with special needs.

During the reception, Vice President Fai Naseem emphasized the significant blessing of independence that the Maldives has cherished for over five decades and commended the warm and friendly nature of the locals towards both each other and foreigners.

Minister Shahid also spoke highly about the country's developmental strides, noting that the Maldives has made remarkable progress in strengthening its diplomatic ties with foreign nations. He said that the Maldives is now a recognized and respected sovereignty in the eyes of the international community.

Maldives gained total autonomy on July 26, 1965, and this year marks the country’s 58th anniversary since it gained independence.
