President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday declared that 83 percent of his administration's First 100 Days pledges have been fulfilled.
In an exclusive interview to local media Mihaaru, the president stated that he was pleased with the accomplishment.
According to the president, his administration is currently working on a five-year action plan for his first term. He assured that details of the action plan will be publicised, allowing the media and public to observe the progress made by his regime.
Shedding light on the pledges already fulfilled, President Solih revealed that he was most pleased with facilitating easier loan schemes for undergraduate students studying in Maldives or abroad, providing breakfasts in schools, and extending maternity leave from three to six months.
"Those are some of the most important things this government could have done for the people".
Conversely, the president shared that he was least satisfied with the progress made on recovering embezzled state funds, and solving cold cases on various murders and disappearances.
President Solih admitted that he had hoped for the efforts of the Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery, and the Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances, to yield better results within the first three months of his presidency.
"However, there are great difficulties, especially the challenges in investigating corruption. While the Murder Commission has made better progress, there are much greater complications with probing graft; it could be that the corruption was too extensive".
President Solih went on to state that his administration decided on the First 100 Days pledges, and subsequently made them public, as a challenge.
He further assured that his government will continue efforts to fulfill the pending pledges, declaring that the vow to slash electricity rates will be achieved before the deadline.
President Solih was sworn into office on November 17, 2018. The first 100 days of his presidency, excluding public and other holidays, end on April 11.
