Meral renews national record in 100 meter butterfly event

Young Maldivian swimmer, Meral had renewed the national record in 100 meter long course butterfly event during the 19th National Swimming Competition currently ongoing in Singapore. This record was previously held by Meral herself.

Young Maldivian swimmer, Meral Ayn Latheef has renewed the national record in the 100 meter long course butterfly event of the 19th National Swimming Championships currently ongoing in Singapore.

Meral, who turned 15 last Monday had broken this record at the preliminary event that took place yesterday after clocking a time of 1 minute and 13.96 seconds.

The previous national record in 100 meters butterfly was also held by Meral herself. This record was made at the 19th Asian Games held in China last year after she completed the race with a time of 1 minute and 13.99 seconds.

Meral had also previously made two new long course records in her age group at the 200 meter and 400 meter individual medley events of the Devon County Championships 2024 held on February this year.

Moreover, she had also renewed the national record in women's short course 50 meter, 100 meter and 200 meter butterfly events during the Midifield and Street County Qualifiers held in the UK this January. In addition to this, the young swimmer also made a new national record in the 200 meter medley event of the same competition as well.

The national record in 50 meters butterfly event within this had remained unbeaten for 16 years prior to Meral's achievement.
