The usage of pressure fed in airports has been stopped temporarily following the explosion in Kulhudhuffushi Airport last week.
Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) and Civil Aviation Authority have launched an investigation to identify the cause of the explosion in the airport.
Last week, an explosion related to a pressure fed used in Kulhuduffushi Airport left four badly injured with one in critical condition.
An RACL Official noted that similar pressure fed systems are used in every domestic airport in the Maldives.
Following the incident in Kulhudhuffushi, RACL has ordered a temporary halt on using the system to ensure future incidents do not occur.
"After ordering temporary halt on using the systems, we have decided to check them through an MNDF-approved [adhering to the National Fire Protection Association standard] factory," the official added.
Firefighters utilize pressure fed during fire drills and training sessions. This system is used specifically in hot-fire drills, which firefighters are mandated to conduct every three months. During these drills, firefighters are tasked with extinguishing flames ignited inside the pressure pad.
The explosion in Kulhudhuffushi City airport took place while the pressure fed was being refueled.
Meanwhile, it was reported that relevant authorities are currently working to transfer the critical patient to India for further medical attention.
