The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has been mobilized after a fire incident on the first floor of the Nalahiya Hotel located in Maafannu.
The MNDF Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene after receiving a report of the incident. The smoke originated from the sauna on the first floor of the building, where a gym is also located.
According to MNDF, firefighters are now working to dissipate the smoke.
In the video that has been circulating, a significant amount of smoke can be seen emanating from the venue.
In a post on X, Health Protection Agency (HPA) urged the public to exercise caution regarding the smoke emanating from the location. Residents in the area have also been asked to keep their windows closed and avoid approaching the smoke-affected areas.
People with respiratory and heart diseases should remain extra cautious, as they can face severe negative impacts from the smoke, the post read.
