India facilitates capacity building courses for Maldivians

The government of India, on Sunday, commenced multiple virtual capacity building courses for Maldivian officials, including week-long training course for the Maldives Customs Service and the Elections Commission.

The training programmes are a continuation of ongoing capacity building initiative under the MoU signed between the two countries during the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's State Visit in June 2019.

Maldives Customs Service

A total of 24 individuals are undergoing the one-week course which began on November 23, and focuses on Intelligence, Investigation and Information Gathering, Analysis and Enforcement conducted by National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) in Faridabad.

The Elections Commission

India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management, Election Commission of India (ECI) organized the e-ITEC Voter Registration (VR) Course.

COVID-19 vaccination

Since October, India's Department of Biotechnology held multiple programmes to enhance local capabilities for effective deployment of a COVID-19 vaccine when released.

Teacher's Training

The National Institute for Teacher’s Training and Research (NITTR) in Chennai, has conducted five online courses since November 16.

These courses include quality assurance in online teaching, learning management systems, online teaching using collaborative tools, monitoring frameworks for online courses and instructional design for online courses.

Civil Service Commission

The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) will host a two-day course on February 21, on good governance during the pandemic for Maldivian civil servants.

Till date, over 150 civil servants have participated in various trainings under the India-Maldives partnership..

The Indian High Commission in Maldives said that the "pandemic has necessitated a shift to specialised/customised online capacity building courses".

"Since October 2020, online capacity building opportunities have increased across sectors for Maldivian officials and interested participants".

The two governments plan on widening their capacity building initiatives in the thematic areas of audit and judicial cooperation.
