Supreme Court, on Thursday, upheld the order issued by High Court, on January 28, to shift former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb to house arrest following health complications.

Adeeb is serving a jail sentence longer than 30 years for terrorism charges over attempting to assassinate former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and charges of corruption.

However, due to the state appealing the case, Adeeb was shifted back to prison at the time.

The order to shift Adeeb to house arrest was issued by the High Court when the former VP submitted a case in Civil Court to authorise medical treatment overseas. However, Civil Court concluded the case stating that Adeeb had not completed the procedure required for detainees to be sent abroad.

While Supreme Court upheld the lower court's sentence, Adeeb is currently under house arrest due to health complications.
