State sells MVR 61 B worth T-bills and bonds

Maldives has sold MVR61 billion worth in T-bills and bonds.

Records from Ministry of Finance indicate cumulative trade volume for 2022, in annual terms, have reached MVR 51 billion.

The state's trade includes sale of T-bills and sukuks MVR48 billion sold by the end of 2021, indicating a MVR 3 billion improvement in state receivables for the current year.

Moreover, in cumulative terms state has sold a total of MVR28 billion worth of T-bills in 2022, adding into the MVR26 billion worth of T-bills sold by the culmination of previous fiscal year. Bonds and sukuk sold to foreign parties during the current fiscal year amount to MVR9 billion.

The bonds sold under the direct supervision of Ministry of Finance come in four repayment period categories which include; 28 days, 98 days, 182 days and 364 days. Outstanding payment exceeding the repayment duration will account for compounding interests.

The most number of T-bills sold fall under the one-year category. State sold MVR22 billion worth of T-bills in this tier.
