Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer attests state's expenditure of MVR6.2 billion on water and sewerage projects in last four-year duration.

He further affirms establishment of water and sewerage systems in all residential islands by mid-2023.

The minister made the revelation at the ongoing ruling Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) congress. He claims the current administration executed water and sewerage projects twice more than both the previous regimes.

Minister Ameer further clarified that prior to execution of majority of the projects, full-fledged water and sewerage systems existed only in 40 out of 200 residential islands.

According to the minister, a total of 104 projects in residential islands across the Maldives are already at ongoing capacity, with contracts awarded for 28 additional projects.

Adding into the details of current administration's infrastructural development projects, the minister claims road construction projects between 2008 to 2018 amounted to just MVR100 million. However, the total amount of road construction projects for past four years reached MVR3.4 billion.

For the same duration, since the current administration took over, harbor construction projects reached a four-year total of MVR6.5 billion. Projects related to education sector was at MVR2.6 billion.
