Ibadhulla Adam has been given the tripartite spot at the upcoming 2024 Summer Paris Olympics offered to Maldives in athletics, revealed Athletics Association of Maldives today.

He secured the spot by maintaining the highest local ranking, revealed the association. Details regarding the ranking list have not been shared with the media as of yet.

However, local media outlet 'Mihaaru' reported that Ibadhulla scored 1003 points to be ranked at first place, being the only athlete to score above 1000 points.

He completed his most recent 100 metre race held on 18th May in 10.7 seconds.

The ranking order published on Mihaaru as per the ranking list obtained shows that Ibadhulla ranked first with 1003 points, followed by Mariyam Ru'ya Ali with 974 points. Hassan Saaid came in third ranking with 965 points while Mohamed Minhaal was ranked fourth with 956 points.

Hassan Saaid, who ranked third this time, is one of the most successful runners the country has seen and competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics held in 2021 due to Covid-19. However, his most recent 100 meter time trial event was completed at 11.87 seconds.

Ru'ya, who came in second, renewed the 100 meter record with an outstanding time of 11.87, making her the first female athlete to complete the race in less than 12 seconds.

Minhaal, who came in fourth, completed the time trial in 10.62 seconds.

With only one athlete receiving a spot at the Olympics under the tripartite invitation, three athletes in total have been finalised to represent the country in the Olympics.

They are, Fathimath Nabara Abdul Razzaq from badminton, Fathimath Dheema Ali from table tennis and Ibadhulla Adam from athletics.

One more spot remains undecided, which local reports say would be dedicated to a swimming athlete.
