Male' City Council has officially prohibited vehicle parking in the city's main road; Majeedhee Magu.

The council had already drawn out traffic lines which instruct vehicle parking across the main road is now no longer optional. Additionally, Maldives Police Service has placed "no-parking" caution cones across the road.

Parking was permitted in designated locations across the road earlier, however, these zones have become restricted prior to the launch of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) initiated mini-bus service.

Meanwhile, the authority is currently attempting to fix and redraw traffic signs and traffic lines across Majeedhee Magu.

The main road, which houses most of the retail outlets in the city is a regularly congested area with heavy traffic at all times - especially during commercial business hours.

The council has not been available for a comment regarding the matter.

However, the authority had earlier, confirmed of attempting to vacate several parking structures in major roads including Majeedhee Magu, Ameenee Magu, Fareedhee Magu and Orchid Magu.

The authority is currently working on developing bus stops in said roads prior to the launch of the mini-bus service.

Maldives government first estimated to launch the mini-bus service on July 31, which had been pushed three weeks behind owing to crucial pre-launch works; including development of bus stops, vacating existing parking zones and allocating alternative parking zones.
