Vaavu atoll Felidhoo Council has announced that it will not provide services to individuals and their immediate families who have not paid their dues.
In an announcement on Wednesday, the council said it had made several efforts to recover outstanding payments due to the council. However, there has been a lack of adequate progress, the notice said.
During the council meeting last week, it was decided that services through the council will not be provided to individuals who have outstanding payments and their immediate families.
The council has also established a five-day window for payment, and after the deadline, a list of defaulters will be made public every month.
The amount of money that Felidhoo Council has not received remains unclear as they have not responded to requests for comments. However, discontinuing services based on non-payment of dues is not a common practice among government agencies.
