President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated on Sunday that he was aware members of opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) were harbouring plans to delay the election.
Speaking at a campaign gathering in Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, President Solih declared that PPM is trying to delay elections once more, by going to court, in the same manner, they had whilst in power.
"We are being very cautious. God willing, voting will take place on April 6, as decided by Elections Commission", said President Solih.
In the past, PPM caused a delay in Local Council Elections by filing a case at court. Additionally, when the party failed to attain a majority, they unsuccessfully attempted to nullify the results through courts.
The president reiterated the importance of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) acquiring a majority of seats in the upcoming parliamentary elections. He urged citizens to vote for candidates who believe in MDP's ideology and will, therefore, aid the government in the realization of its pledges.
President Solih is currently canvassing the nothern atolls alongside former President Mohamed Nasheed, campaigning for MDP's candidates for the Parliamentary Elections slated to be held on April 6.
