Malé City Council has revealed that more than 200 people have applied for jobs in cleaning and maintaining mosques in the city in response to a second round of job advertisements, issued after the first deadline ended with less than stellar support from the public.
The jobs were first announced in February this year to find Maldivian nationals to clean mosques in the nation's capital. While Malé City Council had aimed to hire 114 persons for these roles, only 14 people were reported to have applied for the jobs in the first round, prompting the council to re-announce the vacancies.
