According to the Elections Commission (EC), the only members to submit their complete financial statement according to legal guidelines were President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim.
The candidates of the presidential election were required to submit their completed financial statement by the culmination of the election.
EC provided until November 30 for all presidential candidates to submit their statements.
In a statement by the commission released on Monday, December 11, EC said it has decided to take actions against the remaining five candidates and their election agents owing to legally inadequate financial statements.
Deputy President of EC Ismail Habeeb said that the remaining five candidates did not submit details of their campaign or election-related expenditures and bank statements.

04. Independent Candidate Hassan Zameel (Machangolhi district, Maaveyo Villa)
05. Independent Candidate Faris Maumoon
EC said all five candidates will be fined with MVR 20,000 for insufficient financial statements with their designated election agents fined with MVR 6,000.
The candidates and their election agents are required to pay the fines within 30 days from the date of announcement, made Monday, December 11.
