President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to implement one of the largest tourism initiatives in Vaavu atoll.

During his campaign visit Vaavu atoll Keyodhoo, President Solih said that the atoll holds great significance for strong economic activity, despite its small community.

Although President Solih did not provide specific details, he assured that a significant tourism initiative would be launched in Vaavu atoll, which is home to 2,000 residents. He also stated that the atoll would be connected by air transportation by the time the tourism project begins.

Speaking about the tourism project in Vaavu atoll, President Solih said that the government has already signed the agreement for the initiative. He further stated that the Economic Council convened to discuss the progress and future steps of the project.

"All of these projects will be undertaken, and the people in the atoll will also get a picnic island as per their request," President Solih said.

Vaavu atoll has a notable local tourism industry with multiple guesthouses in several islands. However, many of the island councils have complained about the central government's negligence and lack of support.
