Nishama Mohamed, who was found dead in Haa Dhaalu atoll, Nolhivaram was killed by strangulation, according to her autopsy report.
Nishama's body was taken to India for an autopsy on Wednesday, 12 days after her death.
Police said in a statement that the temporary autopsy report showed that Nishama was suffocated with something around her neck. No other injuries were found on her body.
The victim's husband, Aboobakuru Faisal is accused of her murder. Faisal died undergoing treatment after committing suicide while in police custody.
Nishama's family expressed discontent over performing an autopsy due to the considerable delay. However, the police have the authority to conduct autopsies even without the consent of the family, due to the nature of her death.
