Government reveals new housing policies, announces revised categories

The government, on Wednesday, shared details pertaining to new policies designed to address housing issues in Maldives.

Speaking at a press conference, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, stated that the administration supported the allocation of social housing to the most deserving people.

In this regard, he added that the new policy would calculate housing eligibility based on applicants’ living condition and financial status instead of profession or age.

Minister Aslam further revealed government plans to introduce housing schemes under four income bands which range from low to high income categories.

President’s Office’s Spokesperson Mabrook Abdul Azeez and State Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure Akram Kamaludeen also participated in the press conference.

Briefing the media on the progress of projects, Mabrook disclosed that three projects had been completed over the past week, while an additional three have been initiated.

Overall, the spokesperson revealed that the administration commenced 16 projects and completed another seven over the past month.
