President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, at the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Speaking at the sit-down held in UN Headquarters in New York, President Solih stated it was a great privilege to participate in the 74th UNGA during the first year of his presidency.

He voiced appreciation of the work undertaken by SG Guterres in the UN, highlighting his commitment in building friendly ties between nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights, which President Solih noted are all key priorities of the Maldivian government.

In that regard, the president emphasised that the UN is vital to effectively carry out the domestic and international agenda of the current Maldivian administration.

The President and Secretary-General further discussed areas of collaboration and cooperation between Maldives and UN. SG Guterres reciprocated the president’s sentiments, and assured that the UN will always be of assistance to Maldives.
