President Solih joins Ministry of Arts, Heritage and Culture's drive to clean Friday Mosque

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, joined efforts of the Ministry of Arts, Heritage and Culture to clean the Friday Mosque (Hukuru Miskiy) in Malé.

The President aided top officials of the heritage ministry in laying fresh loads of white sand in the mosque's courtyard and cleaning the well.

Deputy Heritage Minister Ahmed Muhsin and Cultural Heritage Manager Ahmed Hashim also actively took part in cleaning the well.

Additionally, President Solih observed other areas of the mosque and ascended to the top of the minaret.

The efforts, led by Heritage Minister Yumna Maumoon and Deputy Minister Mohamed Thoriq, consisted of repainting the border wall, sweeping the adjacent cemetery, cleaning the well and laying fresh white sand in the courtyard.

President Solih is known to frequent the particular mosque, located in front of the official presidential residence 'Muliaage', for Friday prayers.

One of the oldest mosques in Maldives, 'Hukuru Miskiy' as it is locally known, is on the tentative list of World Heritage Sites compiled by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
