The ministry confirmed last night that all official documents and legal assets related to the Olhu Hiyaa facility have now been transferred under its authority.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has officially taken over the management of the Olhu Hiyaa cat facility in Hulhumalé.
The transfer was decided by the cabinet and communicated to Malé City Council on December 3 last year, although the facility was originally constructed using the city council’s budget.
The ministry confirmed last night that all official documents and legal assets related to the Olhu Hiyaa facility have now been transferred under its authority.
The Ministry earlier said that the facility did not meet all necessary service requirements when it was being developed under the city council’s management.
As a result, the ministry ordered work on the facility to be halted immediately.
Malé City Mayor Adam Azim previously stated that the decision to transfer control of the facility was made while employees were in the process of moving animals into the shelter.
Following the government’s directive to take over, no cats have been transferred to the facility.
