Minister of Homeland Security Ali Ihusan and Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau are to visit the island of Holhudhoo in Noonu atoll to address residents' concerns surrounding the death of Zakiyya Moosa.

Zakiyya Moosa was found dead in her residence on September 10 last year with severe wounds to her neck.

Residents of the island are making strong accusations regarding the case. They are also staging continuous protests on the island stating there hasn't been sufficient headway in the investigation even five months after Zakiyya's death. They claim that it is police negligence that no arrests have been made in the case even to date.

With the protests now having been staged daily for about a week, MP for the constituency AbduSattar Mohamed shared a post on social media today stating that the Homeland Security Minister and Commissioner of Police will be visiting the island soon to address the concerns of residents.

Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas also submitted an emergency motion on the case to parliament.

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and the National Integrity Commission have also recently announced that they will be looking into the investigation around the case.

Protesters have also raised accusations against Zakiyya's husband, calling for his arrest.

In a press conference held last December, Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Samih said that Zakiyya's cause of death is injuries to her throat. Three deep wounds were found on the left side of her neck, and two on the right. Police said at the time that there are no persons accused of the crime or arrested then.

However, last month Police said that they are seeking assistance from USA's Federal Bureau of Investigation.
