Adam Athhar, who held his partner hostage at knifepoint on Thursday night, was also holding what appears to be a smaller knife to his own throat, footage being shared on social media shows.

While the main focus of the public was on Athhar holding a knife at the woman's throat, few noticed that Athhar was holding a knife at his own neck as well.

As the footage shows, Athhar is holding the smaller object, seemingly a knife, to his own throat even as he leads the woman at knifepoint out of the house and to the motorcycle.

While he threatened to kill the woman if anyone approached them, he lifted the knife back to his throat as the motorcycle idled.

As the woman was driving the motorcycle, Athhar held a knife to her throat with his right hand. He held the smaller knife to his throat with his other hand moments before police attacked with the baton in an attempt to rescue the woman.

As Athhar's hand flies away when he is hit with the baton, the weapon in his hand is seen on the footage.

While a police officer sustained injuries to his hand in the attempt to rescue the woman, it appears that the injuries may have been inflicted by this smaller weapon Athhar had been holding to his own neck.

When Police hit him with the baton, the two of them fall with the motorcycle, at which time Athhar appears to attempt at slashing the woman's throat. He was hit multiple times with the baton while falling.

The woman was rescued and taken to hospital, from which she was soon discharged, with no serious injuries sustained.

Athhar was also rushed to ADK hospital for treatment and arrested later upon release. He was readmitted in IGMH the next day due to vomiting for further observation. Once discharged, he was placed in remand in custody until the end of trial. CT scans and other tests, as well as psychological assessments, indicated that his condition was normal.

While in custody, Athhar made an attempt to take his own life. Through live security camera footage, Police discovered him attempting to hang himself in his cell at 19:02 hrs last night. While the timeline shared by Police shows he was taken to IGMH within 23 minutes of discovery in his Dhoonidhoo Prison cell, it does not say when he was last seen safe.

He is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at IGMH, and is on ventilator support.

Thursday's hostage situation had arisen when a fight between Athhar and his partner over paying rent for their shared accommodation escalated.
