Dheema Ali has ranked first in her group during the Table Tennis ITTF South Asia Regional Olympic Qualifier taking place in Nepal and advanced to the second round after triumphing both her matches.
Dheema Ali has ranked first in the Table Tennis ITTF South Asia Regional Olympic Qualifier currently ongoing in Nepal and secured her slot in the second round.
She had emerged the victor during both her matches in the first round of the Qualifiers.
Triumphing her first match against Hoor Fawad of Pakistan in just four games with a score of 11-6, 11-8, 15-13 and 13-11, she had also won her second match which pitted her against Sri Lanka's Bimandee Bandara after securing four out of seven games. The scores of the sets were 12-10, 10-12, 11-4, 6-11, 11-9 and 6-11 and 11-9.
Mishka Mohamed Ibrahim of the Maldives' team had won her first match played within her allocated group as well. She secured her win against Sonam Soma of Bangladesh, also in just four sets, collecting a score of 12-10, 11-9, 11-7 and 11-5.
Mishka, who is ranked third in her group had however lost her next match against Perniya Khan of Pakistan with a collective game score of 4-1.
Male Olympics athlete of Maldives, Moosa Munsaf had also similarly triumphed his first match and faced defeat in the second. Faced off against Sanyog Kapali of Nepal who had successfully won the first two sets of the match, Munsif made a comeback and triumphed the match by securing four out of seven sets.
However, he had lost the second match which pitted him against Lanka's Chameera Ginige who defeated Munsif 4-3 after he had secured the first game of the match.
The next male athlete contesting from Maldives, Akhyar Ahmed Khalid, who was also the silver medalist at the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games faced defeat during both his matches.
