The number of daily tourist arrivals in the Maldives has risen to 6,500.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, this marks a 10 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

This year, the Maldives has welcomed 1.2 million tourists, which represents 67 percent of visitor target for the year.

By August 12, over 78,000 tourists had visited the country. The average length of stay has also increased to 7.8 days this month.

February saw the highest inbound of tourists this year, with an average of 7,400 daily arrivals. If the current trend continues, this month could rank as the second highest for daily tourist arrivals. January and March recorded average daily arrivals of 6,200.

Currently, the largest number of tourists visiting the Maldives come from China, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom.

Last year, India was the top source of tourists for the Maldives, however, it now ranks sixth. The Ministry of Tourism is focusing on boosting arrivals from India and aims to position it among the top three sources of tourist arrivals through targeted campaigns and roadshows in India.
