Local NGO Family Legal Clinic (FLC) on Tuesday announced a support group programme for individuals responsible for supporting families, who are financially affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

With grant assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the free support group programme titled 'Moving Forward in Uncertainty' will be held online, from October 25 till November 14.

The biweekly sessions will be facilitated by Abdullah Faseeh, a Specialist Psychotherapist.

"The aim of this programme is to equip participants with the skills to cope and manage their situations, while providing a space for them to share experiences and find community with others in similar circumstances", said FLC, expressing hopes that the support group would help individuals that are presently without access to mental health support.

Registrations for 'Moving Forward in Uncertainty' are currently open. FLC invites interested individuals to apply by texting “SUPPORT GROUP” to its hotline at +960 9977771, along with their full name, contact number, and email address.

The NGO noted that maximum 15 participants will be admitted on a first come, first served basis.

'Moving Forward in Uncertainty' is part of FLC's broader programme 'Empower for Change', which commenced at the beginning of this year.

FLC is an NGO that provides pro bono legal advice to individuals with family-related or domestic violence issues, as well as for victims of sexual harassment and abuse. In 2019, FLC provided 261 consultations and serviced 201 clients (145 women and 56 men), as well as reached over 387 people in awareness programmes. Many of their clients are located outside the Greater Male’ region with little to no access to the legal system.
