The Family Court on Wednesday night issued a temporary court order for a six-year-old to be transferred under state care within 24 hours.
According to the Attorney General's (AG) Office, the court also ordered Maldives Police Service to intervene and aid the process if any attempts were made to obstruct the execution of the court's order.
The state lodged the aforementioned case at Family Court on Wednesday night, requesting custody of a child that was reported to be neglected by their guardians in an island in central Maldives.
Since the state believed the child was exposed to danger in their environment, AG Office requested the court to expedite the case. As per this request, Family Court arranged a hearing and delivered the temporary verdict on the same night the case was filed.
The government has lately come under fire for incompetence in curbing abuse and sexual violence against children, especially after reports of multiple cases without any convictions.
